A common theme for all Gentle Giant regions is community involvement and service. The organizations we serve vary depending on the location, but each one leaves a special mark in our hearts.
Our San Francisco location has been working with the San Francisco Association of Realtors (SFAR) since 2017, and this has allowed us to support their various charitable endeavors. Specifically, the Welcome Home Project is an initiative we’ve been able to help with regularly, and we appreciate the chance to serve this worthy cause.
The Welcome Home Project “assists San Francisco-based homeless families who are transitioning into permanent housing through an innovative collaboration between the San Francisco Association of Realtors Foundation, local non-profit organizations, government agencies, and the business community,” according to their website.
Their recipients receive a “Welcome Home Package” which includes brand-new house essentials such as cookware, dishes, utensils, sheets, blankets, towels, pillows, and small kitchen appliances. Families with children can also receive school supplies, toys, and used laptops. These resources allow for these families to remain in permanent housing and reduces the chance of them returning to homelessness.
Gentle Giant participates in the Welcome Home Project by storing and delivering all the essential items given to the recipients. It is a privilege to be able to use our warehouse and storage space to protect the items until it’s time for them to be given to recipients. Our additional experience with moving gives us the chance to safely deliver the home essentials.
“We at Gentle Giant San Francisco love working with the San Francisco Association of Realtors on the Welcome Home Project. We get to directly help people transitioning out of homelessness into homes by storing and delivering essential necessities they need in their homes. When we deliver 60 pillows, it’s a great feeling knowing that 60 people are going to have new pillows to sleep on. It’s easy to take for granted having sheets, blankets, microwaves, cooking supplies and other home essentials. We love to be able to contribute to one of the biggest social projects in the city” said Alex Pacocha, the Gentle Giant San Francisco Regional Manager.
We look forward to continuing our work with the Welcome Home Project in 2020. We are honored to play a part in the continued growth and success of the initiative and for all the wonderful people we have met through our involvement!
