Over the last few weeks, we have seen and heard updates from many news outlets about Hurricane Harvey in Houston. As a company with a “Giant heart” and locations all over the country, it has been difficult to watch these events play out on the news and seeing so many innocent lives affected by this natural disaster. With our time and resources, we have decided to assist in any way we can to make sure those in need are provided with necessities.
15,000 Pounds Of Donations Delivered to Houston by Gentle Giant Movers
One way we assisted with relief efforts was loading our trucks with supplies for victims to be delivered to Houston. The City of Boston organized a donation drive at City Hall for Bostonians who wanted to drop off clothing and hygiene supplies for victims. We packed trucks to the brim, filling the seventh truck of donations with over 15,000 pounds of donations! Two of our Giants, Martin and Glenn, even drove the truck to Houston to drop off donated items.
Giants Support School Supply Drive for Houston
We also participated in a school supply drive during a charity concert on September 9th at City Hall Plaza. The concert was free to the public, but attendees were asked to donate unused school supplies in exchange for entry. Donations were of no shortage, and Gentle Giant was happy to assist.
We sent two Giants and one truck to City Hall Plaza, loaded our truck with all the packed donations, and will be shipping everything out to Houston. Since the hurricane delayed the start of school for many students in Houston, having new school supplies will offer encouragement and hope for a fresh start.
As the summer soon comes to an end and fall begins, we are looking forward to seeking out more opportunities to get involved with the community and assist those in need. We send our condolences to everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey, and we are thankful to partner alongside some excellent organizations providing relief to those in need.
