Over the last 40 years, Gentle Giant has been honored to serve so many wonderful customers and grow an incredible extended family of employees, past and present. The uncertainty of 2020 has changed many elements of our daily lives, and we’re so thankful we’ve been able to stay open across the nation as an essential business to assist you with your moving and storage needs.
Back in 1980, a one-time investment of $17 for an ad in the Boston Phoenix set Gentle Giant in motion. Our founder, Larry O’Toole, used a friend’s borrowed truck and his impeccable work ethic to assemble a team of the best movers in the industry, and a company which has grown exponentially. In the present, we are an award-winning national moving and storage company with an unwavering commitment to exceptional customer service.
December offers plenty of time for reflection, and we are so grateful as we look back on the past 40 years of business. Since our previous milestone anniversary in 2010, we’ve experienced even more beautiful memories, and here are a few of our favorites:
Growth of the Gentle Giant Family
Since 2010, we have welcomed so many incredible employees across the country into our Gentle Giant family, with hundreds of new hires across various departments and locations. We have grown from 500 employees in 2010 to 700 employees in 2020, with continued growth on the horizon. Each individual who joins our team learns leadership skills, impacts their community, and joins a team of hard-working individuals committed to similar goals. Many employees have made friends for life through working at Gentle Giant, and those connections are truly priceless.
Expansion of Gentle Giant Moving Company in Other States
From our humble beginnings in Massachusetts to our modern-day presence across the country, we feel immense gratitude for the growth Gentle Giant has seen on both coasts and beyond. We currently have office locations in California, Florida, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington state and the Washington D.C. area. This has meant company growth from 12 offices to 20 moving company offices nationwide. Each regional manager has brought the same Gentle Giant enthusiasm found at our headquarters to their respective location in admirable ways. We look forward to the continued growth of each region and adding even more locations in the future.
Recognition Through Awards and Public Relations Opportunities
Our company has been truly honored to be recognized by a variety of media outlets for our innovations in the moving industry, our sustainability initiatives, and our healthy workplace offerings. In 2020, we had a record-breaking year with the annual nation-wide Healthiest Employers award, with recognition in Massachusetts and six additional regional locations.
A Vibrant Presence on Social Media
Since our Gentle Giant family has grown tremendously over the years, we are thankful for social media to stay connected and share our company wins with current and former employees. Social media also allows us to share these updates with other businesses, potential new employees and customers, and community organizations we are involved with. This has been a notable area of growth for our company since 2010, as apps such as Instagram and Facebook are even more popular and allow us to reach more people than ever before. We look forward to continuing to share company updates and memories with our followers on social media in the years to come.
Wonderful Partnerships with Meaningful Organizations
It is part of our brand identity to give back to our community as often as we can, and collaborating with other organizations which align with our values allows us to make an even bigger impact. The Gentle Giant Charitable Foundation has brought so many lovely people into our circle and has enabled us to make an impact in many ways. We have been able to give back during the Boston Marathon and with the Head Of The Charles Regatta to provide moving and storage services, in addition to many other community events across the country. One of our most notable partnerships since our last company anniversary is with Move for Hunger, an organization which allows us to collect and donate food for those in need and simultaneously avoid food waste.
Our gratitude as a company grows each day, and we are so thankful to everyone who has supported our business as an employee, customer, and community partner. Thank you for allowing us to serve as your trusted moving company, and we look forward to the next 40 years!
