Moving a piano is no small task. These intricate instruments, often weighing hundreds of pounds, require more than muscle power. Hiring professional movers like Allston Piano, a subsidiary of Gentle Giant Moving Company, ensures your piano arrives safely and in tune 🎶

If you don’t have the budget to hire professional piano movers, fear not, our piano moving experts are sharing some of their best advice.

🚪 Measure the piano and pathways - doorways, hallways, and other spaces along the pathway where the piano will be moved.

🪛 Disassemble the piano. With the utmost care, disassemble removable parts of the piano, like the music rack, lid prop, and piano lid. Safely store these items to ensure they don’t get lost during the move.

🎹 Carefully wrap the piano and its components in moving blankets, securing them with stretch wrap.

🚚 Carefully lift the piano onto a dolly and secure it with ratchet straps to prevent shifting when moving.

🏠 Slowly and carefully move the piano out of the house. Then, using a ramp, guide the dolly onto a moving truck. Position the piano towards the front of the truck to minimize any potential movement during transit. Once inside the truck, use ratchet straps for additional security.

🎶 Reassembly your piano with patience and care in its new home. If something doesn’t fit, don’t force it. You can always call a professional to help with reassembly.
